On May 15, 2019, the State Committee of Public Health voted to make gabapentin a scheduled V medication, effective November 18, 2019. This decision was based on its potential for abuse and the need to properly monitor how it is prescribed in Alabama.
Effective November 1, 2019, our practice will no longer prescribe gabapentin for patients. Neuropathy is a common complication of diabetes and we will be happy to refer you to a neurologist to treat your neuropathic symptoms.
Beginning: January 2019
For all our patients with diabetes, our office will no longer complete government forms/letters for diabetic patients who operate a commercial vehicle.
